Year 6 SATs

This week, Year 6 have been working exceptionally hard in their KS2 SATs. We are so proud of all they have done and their focus and determination. To end the week, they shared a picnic in the sun with their Reception buddies.

Safety Works visit

Year 6 had a fantastic morning at Safety Works. They learnt how to call the emergency services, how to stay safe when using the metro and trains, about road safety, water safety and what happens when someone is arrested and has to go to the police station.

Football Team Victory!

Congratulations to our amazing football team who won all 3 of their matches this week. You played brilliantly and represented our school really well. We are looking forward to our upcoming matches!

World Book Day

We all enjoyed world book day in school. We dressed as characters from our favourite books or comfy clothes we enjoy reading in. Algorithms

Year 4 have been using their coding skills to create algorithms and repeated patterns for different shapes and letters.

Layered Portraits

Year 6 have been inspired by Mike Barrett to create layered self-portraits using a range of materials and techniques.

Snowtubing

Year 1 had a fabulous time snowtubing at Silksworth Ski Slope. We enjoyed hot chocolate and Santa even popped in to say hello! What a wonderful way to end the term!

Gardening Gang

Gardening gang have been planting 4000 crocus bulbs which were donated from the Rotary club in Washington. We are looking forward to February when we should see some beautiful purple crocus flowers blossoming on the garden.

Donations to Washington Community Food Project

The mini-vinnies collected items for the Washington Community Food Project and the People’s Kitchen. In school the children learned about how important it is to help those people who may be less fortunate than themselves, which links to our school Christian values.

Odd Sock Day

We all wore our odd socks to school. This is to show that we are all individuals and we are all different. We should all respect each-others individuality.

Year 1 Athletics Event

Year 1 participated in an Athletics Event at Sunderland Tennis Centre. The children travelled by coach to the event, they crossed the Northern Spire Bridge in Sunderland which they had been learning about in Geography. They had a wonderful time at the athletics event, there are some great athletes in year 1!

School Football Team

Congratulations to our school football team who have started the season in fine form. They are working really well as a team and showing great sportsmanship. Good luck in your next games.

MacMillan Fund Raising

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed items to our ‘Green Raffle’. We were able to make 3 lovely hampers which were raffled in aid of MacMillan. Thank you to all of our families and friends who bought raffle tickets, we raised £125.00 for a wonderful charity.

Gardening Gang

Our gardening gang harvested some of our fruit and vegetables this week. We had some lovely potatoes, tomatoes and peas.

Celebration of Sport

Year 5 children competed with other other trust schools in a Celebration of Sport at Gateshead stadium. They participated in multi sports events and dance.

The gardening gang are now seeing the results of their hard work. They enjoyed eating some of the strawberries they had planted and they made some delicious mint tea for all of the staff using the fresh mint that had been planted.

Our year 5 gardening gang have been hard at work in our gardens. The flowers are looking lovely in the reflection garden. The children are working hard on the allotment garden, there are so many weeds to dig out! Well done for all of the hard work.

Reception Class

Reception have been learning all about people who help them within the community. They also looked at different jobs within the NHS. The children enjoyed dressing up and stepping into role.

Celebration of the Word

Thank you to all parents and friends of Year 5 who attended Celebration of the Word. The theme was Mary the Mother of God.

Safetyworks – Year 6

Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Safetyworks in Newcastle to learn about water and road safety; the consequences of stealing; how fires often start; and their mental wellbeing.

Gardening Gang

Children from Year 5 have been helping tidy up our reflection and allotment garden in school. The children are learning about planting, growing flowers and cultivation of soil. The garden is looking lovely, well done for all of the hard work.

Year 4 Tennis Competition

Children from year 4 have been participating in tennis coaching as part of their P.E. lesson. St. Joseph’s Day

It was the feast of St. Joseph on Tuesday 19th March. We celebrated the day in school by attending Mass in church on the morning and then everyone enjoyed cakes in the afternoon. It was such a beautiful day year 6 were able to enjoy their cakes outside.

Girls Football Event

On Friday 8th March we signed up to the biggest ever girls football event. A football coach came into school to develop footballing skills and techniques. The girls then played small matches against other classes. It was a really fun day and we may have even seen some future footballing stars!

World Book Day

We celebrated our love of reading on ‘World Book Day’ by dressing up as our favourite book characters or in our pyjama’s. We had a wonderful day, starting with a parade in the hall, reading with our friends and swapping our books. Year 5 looked fantastic in their costumes.

Big Lent Walk

During Lent we are talking part in ‘The Big Lent Walk’ to raise money for CAFOD and have challengedourselves to walk 200km and raise £200. We are planning a “Big Lent Walk” from school on Tuesday 26th March, taking in a 1.5km around the park and up through the village. We will be leaving school […]

Walkwise

Our year 1 children have participated in a ‘Walkwise’ programme aimed and teaching the children about road safety. They contributed in classroom discussion and had practical lessons outside of school to help them learn the importance of road safety and crossing the road.

Nursery – Let’s Travel

In Nursery our topic is ‘Let’s Travel.’ We have been talking about and looking at features of our local area. The children have loved exploring our Washington Village map. They have picked out landmarks that they know and can talk about what they do there.

Children in Need

All children were invited to take part in non-uniform day for Children in Need. They were asked to wear something bright or spotty. Our school kitchen also had a Pudsey themed lunch which the children enjoyed. Thank you to parents/carers for your generous donations, our school raised £148.81 for Children in Need.

Parliament Week

We welcomed Sharon Hodgson MP to school during parliament week. She had a tour of school from our school council and talked to the children about the work she does as an MP and in the house of commons. She then stayed for lunch with the children.

Harvest Festival

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Harvest Festival. Washington Community Food Project collected the donations and were overwhelmed by the amount of contributions that were received. Children from Year 2 helped to sort out the donations ready for collection.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Macmillan Coffee Morning. We raised a fantastic amount of £315.48 for Macmillan.

Football Team

Our new school Football team have played their first matches this half term. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Healthy School Award

We have just won a ‘Healthy School’s Bronze Award’. This was given to our school for the sporting events that we participate in over the year and the healthy eating that we promote in school.
